Supporting Sound Experience Aboard the Schooner Adventuress
Sound Experience is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to educating, inspiring and empowering children, teenagers and adults to work toward a clean Puget Sound. All contributions are fully tax-deductible.
To keep our programs affordable for school and youth groups, our Sound Studies programs are subsidized by approximately 40%, with additional scholarship funds available to schools from low-income communities. We offer scholarships to teenagers attending our summer week-long Fantastic Voyage programs. And in 2007, we increased our commitment to Puget Sound's underserved youth with the launch of a 3-year Youth-at-risk Initiative partnering with exceptional organizations in our communities serving those young people most at risk for dropping out of school or getting involved in risky behavior. Funds raised support programs for these children and teenagers as we engage them in activities that connect them to the natural environment, and to each other in a healthy, supportive on board community.
Finally, we raise funds to maintain our unique teaching vessel, the historic schooner Adventuress. There is something about a historic tall ship that sparks imagination and creativity in young people. There is growth and satisfaction that comes from "pulling together" to raise the sails that a modern vessel with all its technology cannot match. Adventuress teaches the skills that are important to make kids good community members with solid values. If they learn to sail, that's a bonus. Sailing they can learn in many places. Life they learn aboard Adventuress.

- The cost of expertly maintaining and restoring the nearly 100-year old historic schooner Adventuress
- Our operating budget, for use however it's most needed
Jason Sneed Memorial Scholarship
The family of Jason Sneed have created this Memorial Scholarship to commemorate the tremondous love Jason had for Puget Sound, his eagerness to share his knowledge, and his fondness of his time aboard Adventuress.
Known to his crewmates simply as "Sneed," Jason brought a deep passion and knowledge of Puget Sound's ecology to our community--especially Orcas! During his many years sailing aboard Adventuress, he inspired hundreds of participants throughout the Salish Sea.
We are honored to offer this scholarship to youth in memory of Sneed, and will continue to inspire others care for the Salish Sea as deeply as Jason did.
