Living on the Peninsula

June 2012 - Adventuress has a strong history and investment in the Port Townsend maritime community, in part due to her Centennial Restoration project at Haven Boatworks. Funding from the state and an endowment keep Adventuress sailing, hopefully, in perpetuity.

May 10, 2011 - The city of Richmond, BC is hosting a maritime event after the 2011 Tall Ships Challenge was cancelled.  Called "Ships to Shore Steveston 2011," four ships are planning to attend, including Adventuress.

April 28, 2011 - John Foster submitted a great synopsis of Ballard Maritime Academy's voyage aboard Adventuress in the MyBallard community blog. Check out what these students did with their time aboard.

"The group beat the rain and had excellent wind in Elliott Bay to really put the vessel through her paces. For most of the day, the winds were blowing from 15 – 20 knots and more, perfect for a vessel this size. We regularly topped 10 knots, which is pretty exciting on a 98-year-old vessel. She performed admirably."

March 22, 2011 - The Everett Herald published the moving story of artist Joel Patience.  Joel contacted Sound Experience looking for photos of Adventuress to use for inspiriation.  Joel's resultant painting, "Edmonds to Starboard," will soon become a mural at the entrance to the Edmonds Art Corridor, with a plaque mentioning Adventuress!

July 14, 2010 - KPLU-FM's environment reporter Liam Moriarty interviewed our own Captain Daniel Evans! Captain Evans is a third generation Salish Sea sailor, and the newest Captain of Adventuress.

"There’s a harmonious feel to sailing on a wooden boat. That organic feeling to me, and that feeling of something that is wood, that has been living, that has come naturally to this place is, I think, a really important aspect in creating that environment for coming to understand [Puget Sound]."

July 13, 2010 - This wonderful article, written by Meredith Griffith, was posted on IslandsSounder.com. It has some great quotes from crew and excellently describes what participants experience when they come aboard Adventuress.

May 13, 2010 - Reporter Mimi Jung produced this video which aired on King 5 TV. The report shows some stunning aereal shots, and video from the deck of Adventuress taken while she was sailing on Lake Union in celebration of her win in the Partners in Preservation program. Mimi also has clips of Captain Joshua Berger and Development Associate Zach Simonson-Bond talking about the ship and plans for newly awarded restoration funds.

KPLU Radio

May 13, 2010 - Reporter Gary Davis interviewed Sound Experience's Executive Director Catherine Collins about Adventuress' win in the Partners in Preservation grant program. The radio spot highlights both Adventuress and Town Hall Seattle. Because of the closeness of the competition, both sites were awarded full grants amounting to $125,000. Adventuress will use the money to restore her stern.
