Announcing Women at the Helm for 2015!
As a response to many requests, we are excited to announce a new 4-day Women at the Helm voyage through the San Juan Islands with Captain Karen McDonald, who is new to the Sound Experience community. As a Captain and professional mariner aboard ships such as Geronimo, Spirit of South Carolina, and Spirit of Bermuda, Captain Karen brings exceptional skills and a commitment to teaching, building confidence on the water, and sharing her knowledge of all things nautical.

Adventuress is partnering with Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream and the Center for Urban Waters to expand our opportunities for citizen science, as well as to educate people who come aboard about the emerging issue of Microplastics in Puget Sound. Throughought the sailing season, scoopers from Ben and Jerry's volunteer their time during select public sails to scoop ice cream and help our shipboard educators and participants aboard take microplastics samples. We are also taking samples during overnight programs, getting students involved with very relevant citizen science opportunities. We send the samples to researchers at the Center for Urban Waters to be processed.
The following Sound Experience Microplastics Map shows the samples that have been processed to date, and is updated as more samples are inputed! We are grateful to all the partnerships coming together so we can be part of this exciting new research!
