Volunteer during the Sailing Season


Crew Internships

Join the crew for one month or longer during the sailing season. These volunteer positions include room and board on Adventuress. Interns become active members of the crew. On-the-job training is provided and interns will take part in all aspects of programming, gaining valuable experience in environmental and marine science education, as well as sailing and vessel operations. Specific duties will include teaching, sailing, ship maintenance, assisting in the galley, and more.

Interns must be over 18 years old, have an interest in and desire to teach program areas of ecology, environmental awareness, and sailing; live in a close shipboard environment; take part in all aspects of operating the vessel; and work with youth and adults in promoting Sound Experience's mission. Shore Support

We're always looking for shore support! If you're interested in helping at fundraising events, in the Sound Experience booth at Festivals, or with filing, data entry, and other tasks in the Sound Experience office (located in Port Townsend), please contact Susan at susan@soundexp.org.

Volunteer Winter Work Weekends

Join us for a Volunteer Winter Work Weekend during the ship's winter season! When Adventuress is downrigged and snug under her winter cover, it's time to take care of things we were busy using all through the sailing season. No experience necessary. Fill out a volunteer application and sign up for a Winter Work Weekend here. And sign up for our monthly e-newsletter to stay tuned for any additional winter volunteer opportunities.

Group Volunteer Opportunities
Is your company looking for community service & team building opportunities in the Puget Sound region? Your organization can join us for a day or weekend to help with essential winter projects like block restoration, varnishing deck furniture, or tarring the rigging!
