Common questions for our 2021 programs

1Who can sign up?

2Why the new programs?
Due to the Covid- 19 pandemic we have all had to make changes to our "normal" routine. We want to make sure that at Sound Experience, we can continue to serve our mission and the communities we work with through providing transformative learning experiences. During the pandemic there has been a loss of continuity of daily routine for our youth with school, extra-curricular activities, etc. For some those changes extend to a break in healthcare, in special services, and can create a loss of safety and security. Being able to support young people’s social and emotional needs right now is crucial, and a need in all our communities.

By modifying our programs and providing options that reduce the risk of Covid, we hope to continue to provide education and connections to maritime and environmental science opportunities via our experiential programs.

To maximize safety for participants and crew, we are minimizing the number of start dates, and working with the same participants for a longer period of time, vs. short trips with many students. By having fewer, longer sessions, we can help create a protected bubble for participants and crew. This model reflects best practices from ACA (American Camping Association) programs that ran successful programs in summer 2020.

In addition, our virtual programs will help provide flexible options for groups as an alternative to in-person learning.

4What are your Covid-Practices?
We have implemented new policies and procedures in keeping with Covid-related guidelines and recommendations from the federal and state agencies including the Center for Disease Control (CDC), Washington State Department of Health, county health authorities, and the American Camp Association. We understand as well that the situation is ever-changing, and will adapt our protocols and procedures accordingly. At Sound Experience, we are all shipmates. As such, we are committed to ensuring that we care for our community and all safety protocols are followed, as we deliver our mission aboard Adventuress in this challenging year.
