Adventuress Cup 2023

The Adventuress Cup 2023

The Adventuress Cup 2023 was a success! Here is a quick recap in case you missed it..

First, all of us at Sound Experience cannot thank you enough for making the fourth annual Adventuress Cup – A Race for the Salish Sea an amazing success. Thank you for your enthusiastic participation. You helped to raise more than $20,000 to continue the work and mission of Adventuress to reach our region’s youth with powerful education programs.

We are thrilled at this time to announce the winners of this year’s event based on points accrued through dollars raised, on-the-water race results, participation in the Wind in Your Sails Challenges and recruiting points. While not everyone could take home an award, we hope that everyone had fun! Below are the winners by category and a race day recap. Thank you again for your tireless support of Adventuress and her youth mission!

Race Day Recap

On Saturday, September 16th skippers were greeted with northwesterly winds which provided exhilarating racing conditions with winds gusting to 15 - 20 knots as the afternoon progressed. The NW breeze allowed the Race Committee to set a long upwind beat, followed by a run back to a mark off the Ballard Canal, then a quick upwind leg to the finish.

The first away for the day was the No Flying Sails class (no spinnakers). Paul Smith sailing his Presto 30 Cat Ketch surged across the line and quickly disappeared upwind. Adventuress then crossed the line on port tack and although not racing headed upwind at a fine clip.

Team Frankie continued to pull further ahead and held the lead to the finish. Team Puff however ended up beating Team Frankie on handicap. The overall o race result for this class was Team Puff followed by Team Frankie, Adventuress Inspiration, Moonglow, Club Malolo and Onward and Upwards.

The Virtual Boats class was represented on the water as well with Julie Masura of the Salish Sea Scientists aboard Adventuress. Also exciting were the five high school interns/apprentices that joined Adventuress for race day!
If you would like to make a contribution towards life-changing programs aboard Adventuress, you can still do so here. Thank you!
