Anna Yoors – Chief Mate
Anna grew up in Massachusetts and is not yet sure the place she calls home. She graduated from Hampshire College with a self-designed major connected education and tall ships so she is doing exactly what she studied in school. Anna has spent time sailing on the east and west coast and has worked as a mate for Sea Education Association and The World Ocean School. She holds a 1OO ton inland masters. Anna's most recent certification is a 200 hour yoga teacher training certificate.
Emma LeValley – Program Coordinator
Emma grew up sailing and racing small boats around Seattle and on the Potomac River. She loves mixing her passions for marine ecology, art. and teaching,and is always happy to be out on the water. This winter she spent most of her time dodging snow and rain by hiding in an engine room dismantling and "remantling" engines, painting, and learning about the mysteries of electrical systems. She is very excited to be back on Adventuress this season and looks forward to some nice sunny windy days on deck!
Mason Brown – Galley Coordinator
Mason grew up on Orcas Island, passing his youth sailing and boating in the San Juan Islands and exploring the woods behind his house. He Graduated from Orcas High School in 2015 and has yet to go to college because he's been too busy traveling the world. He has been working in construction on island for the last year saving up to get dive certified. He enjoys cooking delicious meals for his family and house mates. Fun Fact: Mason sailed from Friday Harbor WA to Cabo San Lucas BCS on Schooner Dirigo II over the fall/winter of 2017-2018.
Merlin – Engineer
After graduating from the Seattle Maritime Academy in 2000, Merlin joined the Marine Fireman’s Union and worked in the engine room on container ships for 12 years. He has his engineering license and has also worked with Washington State Ferries and the Alaska Marine Highway. Most recently, he sailed with NOAA.
Gaia Wilson - Second Mate
Stepping aboard as the second mate for Season 1, Gaia grew up on San Juan Island watching Adventuress sail in her backyard. She graduated from Fairhaven College with a degree in Human Ecology and Sustainable Food Systems and has also worked with the Soundwatch Boater Education Program and the Whale Museum in the San Juan Islands. Her experiences and enthusiasm make her a perfect match for the Sound Experience community!
Sophia Tigges – Educator / Deckhand / Relief Program Coordinator
Sophia grew up in the opposite corner of the country in lovely Atlanta, Georgia. They received a B.S. in Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After spending the past two seasons working on the schooner Seaward as an educator/deckhand in San Francisco Bay and as the naturalist in Baja California Sur, Mexico, they are super stoked to spend another season on a schooner! In their spare time, they play ukulele and look for cats to pat.
Michelle DesLauriers – Educator / Deckhand / Relief Galley Coordinator
Michelle is a native of New England,where she completed her B.S. in Environmental Science at the University of Vermont before packing her car and moving west. She spent the last couple of summers collecting post fire restoration data in the Great Basin Desert for the Eastern Nevada Landscape Coalition. In the winter, you can find Michelle split-boarding up the peaks surrounding Lake Tahoe with her husky, Gully.
Anne Willey– Educator / Deckhand/Relief Engineer
Anne is a returning crew member member and as is from Bothell,Washington. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and History (and a minor in French) from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. She previously worked as a Newborn Hearing Screener for Pediatrix Medical Group. She plays the bagpipes for the Keith Highlanders Pipe Band.
Krystina Lincoln – Lead Educator / Deckhand
Krystina is from Easton, MA and studied Geosciences at Williams College. Her student trip aboard the Robert C. Seamans sparked a passion for shipboard education. Since graduating, she's worked as a seafloor mapping intern aboard E/V Nautilus and as a deckhand aboard the AJ Meerwald and Roseway. If you can't find her, she's probably off looking at rocks, petting a dog, or baking desserts.
Brooke Gipson – Season Long Educator / Deckhand
Hi! My name is Brooke and I'm an Educator/Deckhand with aspirations of becoming a bosun. I started working with boats as a volunteer and employee on three 17th century reproduction ships for Jamestown Settlement, a living history museum in Virginia, 10 years ago in middle school. Since then, I've also worked on Hawaiian Chieftain for Grays Harbor Historical Seaport. On and off, I've been working on a degree in English literature, but at the moment I'm focused on getting my Able Seaman's license and following a life of a more maritime persuasion. My love for boats and the water comes from having been born and raised on the island of Saipan, the capital of the US Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
Katelyn Vancouver – Season Long Educator / Deckhand
Kate comes from the great state of Ohio. Although the people there are lovely, she decided to venture outward. While studying Outdoor Recreation and Education at Ohio University, she spent time working with students in New Hampshire, the Boston Harbor Islands, North Carolina and throughout the Midwest. One of her favorite hobbies in college was cave exploration and mapping, which allowed her to explore parts of the world that may have been visited by only a very small few before her (in the depths of West Virginia farmland). After a stint in Seattle as a habitat restoration professional, she's returning to the comfortable world of outdoor education and couldn't be more excited to do so in the new and exciting environment of a 106-year-old tall ship!
James Hsu – Season Long Educator / Deckhand
Hi, my name is James and I'm from Kent, WA! On land I'm an apprentice blacksmith and bladesmith, but here on the waters of the Salish Sea, I'm just your good old average deckhand. I'm currently working towards my AB Sail certificate, and I first started working on tall ships with Grays Harbor on Lady Washington, where I was the Topman and gunner.

Maddy hails from Vancouver Wa. She recently received her Bachelor's degree in Oceanography with a focus in chemistry. She's previously been a barista Starbucks and volunteered at the Pacific Science Center. Fun fact about her is that she's a mirror twin
Lucas Mobley – May Month Educator / Deckhand
Lucas is from the San Francisco’s Bay Area and is currently pursuing his bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies: Bio-diversity and Conservation at Yale University. An avid surfer, diver and photographer, Lucas has spent much of his time exploring and camping the Pacific Northwest. In the past he has worked with nonprofit organizations in Eugene Oregon and spent a summer researching orca whales at the Orca Lab in British Columbia. His ultimate dream is to travel the length of the west coast from Alaska to Chile immersed in kelp forest biology, surfing and free-thinking.
Ellis Hansen – June/July Month-long Educator / Deckhand
Ellis is from the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area. He has an associate degree in Natural Science and are excitingly beginning their study in Conservation Biology at Humboldt State University in Arcata, California. Last summer he interned aboard the Exy Johnson and Irving Johnson, Twin Brigantines in San Pedro. From there Ellis jumped around from a Halloween scare actor to an aquatic specialist at a pet store.A fun fact about Ellis is that he's been a volunteer docent at Point Reyes National Park, which is one of their favorite places in the world!
Yoela Zimberoff – June/July- Month-long Educator / Deckhand
Yoela grew up in Seattle, Washington and currently studies at Reed College in Portland,Oregon.She is a religion major, with a strong interest in environmental anthropology and sustainable living. Immediately after graduation, Yoela plans on shaving her head and hiking across the US

Claire Gaskins - Galley Coordinator
This is Claire's third season on board Adventuress, and second season as GC. She grew up in Redmond, Washington and has a degree in Environmental Science from Western Washington University. Claire loves to travel, and just got back from living in New Zealand for a year.
Victor Boyer - Engineer
I am Victor, a half Swedish nerd from Utah that spent the past few months packing bags in Sweden. I responsibly dropped everything and come sailing. I have an associates degree and I want to build rockets.
Biz Wallace - Second Mate
Second Mate Biz grew up in North Carolina and has a degree in design from the University of Southern California. She started sailing tall ships in 2011 and most recently sailed as 2nd mate on S/V Geronimo and 3rd mate on the SSV Corwith Cramer. When not sailing, she can be found practicing yoga, taking photos, or shredding the gnar.

Josh Bastacky - July/August - Month-long Educator
Josh is a just-graduated student of Reed college in Portland who is very excited to be back aboard the Adventuress! He has been aboard twice as a student and once as a junior crew member, and loved every moment of it. In school, he studied the neuroscience of addiction, habit formation, and emotional regulation, with a healthy dose of philosophy. After all that time in the lab and library, he can't wait to be back outside and on the water with the future students and campers aboard the Adventuress!
Evan Williams - Educator/Deck Hand
Evan is from Louisville, Kentucky and just received his bachelor's degree in natural resources and environmental science from the University of Kentucky in May. He has worked for the past three years as a lab assistant in a soil science lab, and has also worked with the Forest Service as a forestry research technician. He plays the cello and loves plants very much.
Steve Grace - August - Month-long Educator
Steve is the author of many books on a diverse range of topics, including historical cartography, urban development in China, the sustainable food movement, and watershed management in the American West. While living on the Oregon coast, he led natural history tours, including sea slug safaris and rain forest treks. He currently lives in Port Townsend, Washington, and he recently completed Certified Interpretive Guide training through the National Association for Interpretation.
Elise Ziemendorf - July/August - Month-long Educator - Deckhand
I grew up in Green Bay, Wisconsin and have a nursing degree from the University of WI - Madison. I began learning to sail on a study abroad trip in college. Now, when I'm not working as a nurse, I can be found crewing for sailing races or trail running in the mountains. Fun Fact: I don't like coffee.
Anna Wietelmann - August/September - Educator - Deckhand
Anna Wietelmann I am grew up in Piedmont, California and still call the East Bay my home. In 2016 I earned my B.S. in Earth Systems (Environmental Science) at Stanford and since then I have worked a couple jobs as a field tech and have been sailing with Sea Education Association as a deckhand and assistant steward. A fun fact about myself is that I have a twin brother who looks nothing like me!
Meredith Carle - September - Month-long Educator - Deckhand
Meredith is from Issaquah, though she likes to explore the outdoors across the country. She attended Rice University in Texas for two years as a Kinesiology major, but has since switched her focus to outdoor education through overnight camp programs. She has spent the last five years on staff at a Girl Scout summer camp where she holds various positions and is the primary instructor on the small Topper sailboats used. She is looking forward to exploring outdoor and environmental education through her time on Adventuress.
Karrin Lechter - September - Month-long Educator - Deckhand Hi I'm Karrin I study marine biology and history at Western Washington University. I grew up in northern California and spent as much time as possible on the beach. I love jellyfish, they are my favorite animal and i hope to join a jelly research team when I'm done with school.
Leslie Rabalais - September/October - Month-long Educator - Deckhand
Hi! My name is Leslie Rabalais and I am originally fromLouisiana (south of New Orleans). I have a degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Most recently I taught Pre-K at a public school in Savannah, GA. I spent the summer road tripping out west and backpacking the John Muir Trail with a couple friends. Fun fact about me..I love to travel and I have taught English in Thailand and have backpacked in the Himalayas including going up to Mount Everest Base Camp! Maureen Lare - October - Month-long Educator - Deckhand
Originally from Columbus, Ohio; Maureen earned her degree in Biology from The Ohio State University. After studying marine biology in the Galapagos Islands she has worked in various marine science education programs around the US. The last couple of years she has worked on whale watching boats in Alaska and Hawai'i educating the public about the importance of our ocean ecosystems.
Clara Smith - Month-long Educator - Deckhand
Clara grew up in Colorado but is now studying marine scienceat the University of Hawaii at Hilo. She's been exploring the Washington Coast and the Salish Sea over the past few months while working for Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary. She hopes to use her education and experience working in the sanctuary to promote conservation and share the beautiful marine environment with others.
Kalena Walke - September/October Month Long Educator
Kalena grew up in various places along both coasts in the US,which sparked an early interest and passion for marine science. The PNW won itself a special place in her heart, so she devoted her studies to the local marine and coastal ecology. After school she rarely stayed put, hopping around to Alaska, Germany, and the Philippines, but has finally flown home to land on Whidbey Island.
