Covid-Responsible Day Programs

Girls at the Helm Week-long Day Program

Our most popular program - where STEM science, the Salish Sea, and maritime history come alive - is back for 2021 and has been adapted to provide a Covid-responsible experience! Join us for a week of consecutive day programs for girls in grades 7-12. The girls participate directly in every aspect of sailing the ship, from hauling lines to learning about navigation and STEAM principles. Through these activities, they’ll learn the significance of teamwork, how to take responsibility for their own actions, and the pride of accomplishment. Sailing and learning together as the ships company, the girls will develop confidence as leaders, sailors and advocates for the future of the Salish Sea.
Where Shilshole Bay Marina, Seattle
When: Daily Monday through Friday at 9am - 3pm, July 12th - 16th
Cost: $695

This program will be offered to a maximum of 12 participants and is subject to change based on current state and local guidelines. Please scroll to the bottom of this page for more details on our Covid Protocols.

Participants must bring their own lunches. Snacks will be provided.

A limited number of full and partial scholarships are available for our teen programs. For more information, click here.
Girls at the Helm presented me with all of the options that I had in life and showed me successful women mentors—women doing what they want to do... It was those experiences that gave me a direction in life. I’ve been doing ocean research ever since. - Amelia F., Girls at the Helm 2009

Fantastic Voyage Week-long Day Program

Our popular Fantastic Voyage is back for 2021 and adapted to provide Covid-responsible programming! Join us this year for a week of consecutive day programs, where we provide youth in grades 7-12 a fun and dynamic environment that is supportive of all. Meet new people while setting sail, expand comfort zones by climbing aloft or steering the ship. Explore the Salish Sea with activities focused on marine animals including plankton and marine mammals, ocean acidification, microplastics and more! Fantastic Voyage builds confidence and competence, models teamwork and responsibility and provides strong crew role models with respect to environmental stewardship and community.

About the Apprentice program
Our Ship's Apprentice Program is a special opportunity for teenagers between the ages of 15 and 17 who have previously sailed aboard Adventuress on an overnight program. As a Ship's Apprentice, you will become a junior member of the crew, assist in leading a watch, improve your deck skills, and support our environmental programs. To find out more, please visit the Apprentice page.
About Youth Scholarships
Though all of our programs are subsidized, we also provide some partial and full youth scholarships on a limited basis.

Scholarship recipients are chosen based on financial need, as well as the applicant's interest and enthusiasm for our educational programs and mission. Covid Protocols

We have implemented new policies and procedures in keeping with Covid-related guidelines and recommendations from the federal and state agencies including the Center for Disease Control (CDC), Washington State Department of Health, county health authorities, and the American Camp Association. We understand as well that the situation is ever-changing, and will adapt our protocols and procedures accordingly. At Sound Experience, we are all shipmates. As such, we are committed to ensuring that we care for our community and all safety protocols are followed, as we deliver our mission aboard Adventuress in this challenging year.

We will be asking you to help us to follow all Covid-19 policies by reading over the materials we send out, complying with all guidelines and letting us know if you have any questions. Together we can help reduce the risk of Covid spread in our communities, and still experience the magic of Adventuress.

Please read over the Sound Experience Covid-19 Practices to learn about Sound Experience’s Covid-19 policies and procedures. Once you have registered your child, we will send to you a packet of information detailing our practices and how you can prepare for your specific program. Should you have any questions, please e-mail Amy at amy@soundexp.org
