Become a Volunteer

Become a Sound Experience Volunteer!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Virtual Volunteer Orientation on Thursday, November 21st. If you missed it, stay tuned, we are planning to post the video after the Thanksgiving weekend. In the meantime, check out the information below and we hope to see you aboard Adventuress soon. Thank you!
Thank you for volunteering with Sound Experience! We greatly appreciate all that you do to help support Adventuress and her mission. Please take a few minutes to review the following information about our volunteer software, Civic Champs and the types of ways you can volunteer with us through Volunteer Groups.

Explore all the opportunities for you to be involved with Sound Experience with the Civic Champs calendar! Sign up for the events, pick your role, shift time and more. Your calendar will specifically show the events that are available to the groups you are a part of. Click the button below to access the calendar - a Civic Champs account is required and you'll only be able to see the events that are open to the groups you are a part of (see more about groups below the Civic Champs section).

Civic Champs

Civic Champs is our new volunteer platform that will help make it easy for you to sign up for events and track your hours! There are two ways to use Civic Champs - via a web browser or the Civic Champs app (more instructions below). Both have their own pros and cons so please use whichever is easiest for you. No matter which method you choose, follow the prompts to create an account.
Web Browser
  • Simple
  • Direct link to Sound Experience calendar
  • Can save page on phone
  • Doesn't require location
  • Must use Kiosk on ship to check in/out of events
Civic Champs App
  • Quick to access on your phone
  • Requires location
  • Searches your area for all volunteer opportunities near you
  • Uses geofencing to automatically check in/out of events
  • Can view how many hours you've completed
  • Want a quick demo of the app? Check out this video

Volunteer Groups

Groups help you volunteer with Sound Experience in a way that fits your interests! Be a part of one or all of them, there isn’t a limit. Some groups will have special requirements - like being background checked to work on our youth programs and/or being a part of our drug testing program to be listed on station bill. Explore the different groups below!

Shipyard Volunteers

Join this group to help support ongoing shipboard maintenance aboard Adventuress. This will include events like Winter Work Weekends during the winter maintenance season, the Summer Work Week in July and periodic maintenance days throughout the sailing season. Anyone is welcome, no shipyard/ maintenance skill required. We are happy to train you!

There are lots of ways to be involved in this group including as a Shipyard Cook, Volunteer Ambassador, Shipyard Interpreter and more.

Event Volunteers

Join us for various events throughout the year! This could be the boat festivals, The Adventuress Cup - A Race for the Salish Sea, Party for Adventuress (annual gala) and more!

Office Support

Our dedicated staff members, affectionally called the "Office Watch", would love support with office related projects. This could be helping with mailings, organizing our Port Townsend office or helping to prepare for an upcoming event.
